Location

Blyth South is a long, wide, golden stretch of sandy beach, backed by a system of sand dunes which are a haven for wildlife and a designated area of Special Nature Conservation.

Parking

Parking is available towards the northern end of the beach on the edge of the town of Blyth, at the Mermaid Car Park, off the B1329, post code NE24 3PL.

Access to the beach

From our container the path takes you past the Blyth Battery tea room and there are slopes to both the east and west sides of the beach.

The east side beach runs towards Blyth. This is the longer side but care needs to be taken as there can sometimes be large pebbles at the end of the easterly slope.

The west side is a shorter stretch of beach.

When the tide is high there can be very little beach to make use of, so it’s always advisable to check the tides before you come. You can do this using the Tide Times website Opens in a new window.

Facilities

Coastline chip shop Opens in a new window has level access and disabled toilet.

The Dave Stephens Centre Opens in a new window has public toilets including a large disabled toilet, outside water tap and a small team room.

Dogs

Restrictions are in place on certain areas of the beach between May & October. For detailed information you can check Northumberland County Council Website Opens in a new window.

About the area

Coastline chip shop and Ice cream Parlour Opens in a new window and the Dave Stephens Centre Opens in a new window are at the Mermaid car park entrance.

Blyth Battery Opens in a new window have a small tea room with outside seating and during the summer season there can be events at the Battery.

There is a large children's play-park including a climbing wall.

There is a tarmac path along the top of the dunes all the way to Seaton Sluice.

There is currently a new development taking place which will bring new retail and food outlets to the car park area.

Beach huts can be booked through Active Northumberland Opens in a new window for a day rate, but this is in high demand so booking well in advance is recommended.
