Location

You will find our storage unit behind 'The Square' adjacent to the public toilets, our logo is displayed on the door.

Parking

Two disabled parking bays are available in the Square (accessed by lowering a chain barrier which must be refastened after entry), these are free to blue badge holders. The main car park is on the brow of the hill before reaching the village, however there is then a steep descent into the village which may not be suitable for wheelchair users.

Access to the beach

From our storage unit head back towards the square where you will find the concrete ramp leading down to the beach. This looks out to St Mary's Haven.

At the bottom of the ramp there is a substantial stretch of soft sand which can be an effort to cross. This should be taken into consideration when booking.

Once over the soft sand there is a long stretch of harder sand near the waters edge, a great place for exploring the beach.

When the tide is high there can be very little beach to make use of, so it’s always advisable to check the tides before you come. You can do this using the Tide Times website Opens in a new window.

Equipment

At Newton-by-the-Sea, we usually have

Please be aware the equipment available may change as we sometimes move equipment between sites.

Facilities

Public toilet facilities are available and can be found adjacent to our storage unit. There is a disabled toilet available, please note due to the size of the space it may not be suitable for all powered chairs.

Dogs

Well behaved dogs are welcomed on the beach all year round. In bird breeding season there may be local restrictions in place about keeping dogs on leads. For detailed information you can check Northumberland County Council Website Opens in a new window.

About the area

Low Newton-by-the-Sea is a picturesque village on the Northumberland Coast. An open ended square of cream-washed cottages look out onto a glorious sandy beach and secluded bay.

Tucked off the beaten track the beach can often be very quiet out of season.

It is the home of one of Northumberland's most attractive fresh water nature reserves. There is a wheelchair accessible bird hide with a lowered viewing station available.
