"I really enjoyed actually getting on the sand last Saturday. Has made my year. "

Location

We are situated in a blue container at the bottom of the ramp at the South end of the beach. You will find us right beside Crusoe's, who very kindly sponsor our container. Our logo can be seen on the side & front of the container.

Generally equipment at this site needs to be booked in advance.

Parking

Parking is available down one side of the ramp.  This is pay parking but free to blue badge holders. There are 3 designated disabled parking spaces right next to our container. They can sometimes be difficult to spot when the weather has moved sand over them.  The RingGo location code for the car park is 5879.

There is additional parking on Tynemouth Front Street and car parks, and limited spaces on the roadside opposite the hotel.

Access to the beach

There is long ramp and car park which leads down to the beach, access is opposite The Grand Hotel.

Initial access to the beach is onto very soft sand just passed just our container. Once you are on the beach there is a slight slope towards the sea. While this may not seem significant as you head off, on returning the combination of incline and soft sand can make the chairs more difficult to push.

When the tide is high there can be very little beach to make use of, so it’s always advisable to check the tides before you come. You can do this on the Tideschart website Opens in a new window.

Equipment

At Tynemouth, we usually have

Please be aware the equipment available may change as we sometimes move equipment between sites.

Facilities

Next to our container is Crusoe's and Crusoe's Street Food, both have flat access. They both serve hot and cold food and drinks as well as ice cream and cake! There are also lots of lovely cafes in Tynemouth.

Public toilet facilities are available behind Crusoe's, however the disabled toilet is located inside Crusoe's Café, this is for use by anyone, not just customers.

The nearest Changing Place can be found at North Shields Customer First CentreOpens in a new window.

Dogs

Restrictions are in place on certain areas of the beach between May & October. For detailed information you can check North Tyneside Council Website Opens in a new window.

About the area

The lovely Longsands beach stretches for a mile. Every day it is cleaned and raked by North Tyneside Council so provides a good clear surface for a beach jaunt.

To the North of Longsands is Cullercoats Bay and to the South is King Edwards Bay and the North Tyne Pier.

Nearby Tynemouth village is a popular place for people from far and wide to come for a variety of reasons. It is steeped in history, has some fabulous attractions, great shopping and a vibrant nightlife. A perfect destination for a day trip, the charming village has something to offer everyone.

The dramatic Tynemouth Priory & Castle dominates the headland. The site dates back centuries and is the burial place of Saints and Kings of the old Kingdom of Northumbria.

There are some truly breathtaking walks to take round Tynemouth, the walk along the seafront is stunning and is rewarded with views of golden sandy beaches. The promenade takes you to the historic North Shields Fish Quay.
