You will find us just past the the Sand Dancer pub Opens in a new window and Colmans Sea Food Temple Opens in a new window at the south end of the South Promenade. Our blue container has our name and number on it and is alongside the red container of South Shields Surf School. Generally equipment at this site needs to be booked in advance.
Parking is available in a number of car parks along the South Promenade, the nearest one is South Promenade South. This is pay parking but free to blue badge holders. There are 12 designated disabled parking spaces, 6 either end of the car park. The paybyphone location code is 802950.
Access to the beach
There is wide ramp to the beach just opposite our container. Occasionally the weather can wash sand from the bottom of it, but if this is the case there are a number of other places just a few meters along the promenade where you can access the beach directly. Of all of the beaches we are located at, South Shields has the easiest access.
When the tide is high there can be very little beach to make use of, so it’s always advisable to check the tides Opens in a new window before you come. You can do this at Haven Point Swimming Pool Opens in a new window.
At South Shields, we usually have
Please be aware the equipment available may change as we sometimes move equipment between sites.
Next to our container is the Sand Dancer pub Opens in a new window and Colmans Sea Food Temple Opens in a new window. Colman's has ramp access and then a lift to take you to the seating area as well as a large disabled toilet.
Public toilet facilities are available at the North end of the car park. There is one disabled toilet.
South Shields has many other restaurants and cafes along the promenade towards the pier.
During mid and high season dogs are only allowed the beach at certain times of day. For detailed information you can check South Tyneside Council website Opens in a new window.
